MYOS (Associação Nacional Contra a Fibromialgia e Síndrome de Fadiga Crónica) is a trailblazing organisation in Portugal that has been championing the cause of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) and Fibromyalgia since its establishment in 2003. With a focus on equality and support for both patient groups, MYOS was founded by individuals who recognised the common struggles and overlaps between these conditions.
Led by an elected board, which includes patients and carers, MYOS works diligently to raise awareness, promote scientific recognition, and advance research for both ME and fibromyalgia in Portugal.
MYOS is present across all regions and islands in Portugal, ensuring that their initiatives are accessible to all. They actively collaborate with expert partners, including Lisbon’s medical school, to foster understanding and empathy among medical students towards patients with ME and fibromyalgia.
Through their dedication to research, advocacy, and patient empowerment, MYOS is a driving force in the ME and fibromyalgia community in Portugal, offering support and hope to those affected by these conditions.
